Pölkky and Rauanheimo start cooperation in the port of Oulu

Pölkky and Rauanheimo have signed a cooperation agreement for lumber port operations in Oulu. With a long-term agreement, the companies agree to develop operations to achieve common goals. The agreement includes all port services in Oulu and possible services in other Finnish ports as well.

The four sawmills of Pölkky are logistically located in the hinterland of the port of Oulu, from which the products are transferred to the port mainly by road transport. A large renovation investment is underway at the Kajaani sawmill, which will increase the company’s production capacity significantly. Rauanheimo’s role as a long-term partner will be an important part of Pölkky’s future logistics.

”Rauanheimo is investing significantly in Oulu and the agreement with Pölkky is a very important foundation for the development of our operations. With this agreement and our previously concluded agreements, we will be the largest sawn timber operator in Oulu right from the beginning of next year,” says CEO Tero Kosonen and welcomes all sawn timber exporters from Northern and Central Finland to join us.

Rauanheimo uses the latest technology in its service production. The main loading machine in the port will be an electric hybrid crane Mantsinen 200 DER. Reducing the carbon footprint and taking the environment into account in all operations also supports our customers’ responsibility goals. The Port of Oulu is involved in offering environmentally friendly solutions by electrifying the sawn timber dock.

Recruitment to Oulu has already started. We are looking for motivated people for supervisors as well as machine operators. “We believe we will find top professionals for our growing and reputable company,” reflects regional manager Seppo Vehkaoja.
