The port is located at the end of the Bothnian Bay, about 13 kilometers from Tornio city center. The port has a nine meter deep fairway that is 120 meters wide. There are eight berths.

The vessel traffic is busy all year round with about 500 vessel calls per year. Freight transports accounts for approximately three million tons. The majority of the export via Röyttä port consists of steel and ferrochrome. The majority of the imports consist of steel, coke (fuel), limestone products and natural gas. Due to its northern location, the Bothnian Bay is covered by ice for about five months of a calendar year, but thanks to good ice breaking equipment, the traffic is smooth all year round.
