Rauanheimo has signed a contract with Critical Metals Ltd for bulk operations in Tahkoluoto

The Australian company Critical Metals Ltd is planning to construct a vanadium recovery project in Tahkoluoto. Rauanheimo will be handling the bulk material flows for the plant at the port of Tahkoluoto.

The plant will recover vanadium from steel production slag that is shipped to Tahkoluoto from SSAB’s steel productions in Raahe, Oxelösund and Luleå. Rauanheimo is responsible for the bulk material handling in the port of Tahkoluoto. Rauanheimo is an excellent partner for this since they are currently operating in Tahkoluoto and have experience, suitable manpower and equipment at the site to offer complete logistics services to Critical Metals Ltd.

The recovery of vanadium is a good example of efficient circular economy. The slag products contain high contents of vanadium that will be recovered by a proprietary hydrometallurgical leaching process at Tahkoluoto. The remaining by-products will be used in the production of cement, so the process does not create any waste streams. The recovery will be done in an environmentally friendly manner and will be powered with renewable energy as well as use carbon dioxide extracted from the industry within the region.

– We are very happy that Critical Metals has chosen us as a partner for logistics operations in this innovative project. The contract is strategically important for us as it further strengthens our position as a leading provider of logistics services, says Rauanheimo’s CEO Tero Kosonen.
