Port of Tornio

The port is located on the coast of the Bothnian Bay, about 13 kilometers from the center of Tornio. The port is accessed by a nine-meter-deep shipping channel, which is 120 meters wide. There are a total of eight berths. Maritime traffic is busy year-round, with approximately 500 ships operating annually in the port. The volume of cargo traffic is about 3 million tons. In Röyttä Port’s exports, steel and ferrochrome are the most significant. Recycled steel, coke, limestone products and natural gas make up the majority of imports. Due to its northern location, the Bothnian Bay is covered with ice for about five months of the calendar year, but thanks to good icebreaking equipment, navigation in the Bothnian Bay is smooth year-round.
